Optic Fellow Fever Heartbreaker

Madison Mayhem has been on a tear over the month of May. Placing in every tournament they played in and coming off a great performance to win the May Maddness tournament the week before. They have moved up in the USGF Tennessee state rankings and are currently 3rd and positioning themselves to overtake the number 1 team Lady Jaxx.

The time and place for this was set at the Optic Yellow Fever tournament being conducted at the Jackson Sportsplex. Madison Mayhem entered the tournament as the number two seed with the Lady Jaxx seeded #1. The were set for a collision course with each team winning their first four games. Morgan Fielding took the mount against the Jaxx in the championship of the winner bracket and it was not her best outing. After pitching two scoreless innings Mayhem's defense and pitching broke down. They allowed four unearned runs and went  on to loss to the Jaxx score of 6-2.

They rebooted and had a stunning comeback against the Panther 99 team. Trailing by a score of 5-2, Mayhem was down to their last three outs. Playing solid small ball they positioned themselves for another great comeback. With the winning run on second base Morgan came to the plate with 2 outs. She delivered once again and drove a double down the third base line to score the winning run and to set up a rematch with the Lady Jaxx for the Championship.

The championship game Mayhem battled but their strength was not with them. This being their 4th game of the day they just did not have the comeback strength to do it again. They fell to the Lady Jaxx once again by a score of 5-3.

Mayhem Excited about Morgan Joining

Morgan Elizabeth Fielding (known as #12) has played softball throughout most of her life. She is, not only a star picture, but a vital weapon at any position she is placed. She will be able to, not only, bring speed and discipline to the Mayhem plate but also a knowledge of the game that most girls her age cannot. With this, she will also be able to bring a unity within Mayhem that most teams lack. She not only brings in a great foundation of fundamentals and talent but also a heart and drive for the game that is, for the lack of better words, contagious.

Morgan has shown a great enthusiasm when it comes to playing for Madison Mayhem. She believes that this group of girls will be able to manage and succeed many championships in the USGF world. One of the main obstacles towards the end of the season will the the USGF World Series.

Mayhem starts the season

Madison Mayhem started their spring season at the "Ice Breakers Tournament March 12th -13th. Mayhem provide a strong showing placing 4th out of 12 teams from 4 different states. Morgan lead the pitching efforts going with three wins and only one loss for the weekend. She had a total of 22 strike outs for the tournament. She had an earned run average of only 1.33 and only gave up five walks in 4 games. Her efforts at the plate lead to a batting average of .523 and delivered the game winning hit in a close one with Impact 99.

Mayhem as a whole really showed that most the team had not played together. Team unity will be a key to their upcoming success and will be a major focus for the coaching staff. Team manager Russ Bratton delivered the four keys to victory to the team after the heartbreaking defeat to the Lady Jaxx 4-3 to eliminate Mayhem from the tournament.

Mayhem's Key to success
  • Eliminate strike-outs
  • Make the routine plays
  • Pitcher's reduce walks
  • Execute on all base running
